Description
A mobile PCM thermal energy storage unit transports thermal energy (waste heat or process heat) using phase change materials (PCM). It stores heat via changes in aggregation state, enabling it to achieve two to four times the storage capacity of conventional water tanks within compact dimensions. This system can be transported using a swap body on a truck.
Storage capacity: 1.3 MWh thermal energy
Key Functions & Features
Principle (latent heat): Storage media such as paraffins or salt hydrates melt at designated temperatures, absorbing substantial amounts of heat. This energy is then released at the same temperature when solidifying.
Capacity & Efficiency:
Thanks to energy storage via phase change without noticeable temperature increase, these tanks offer considerably greater operational range. A modern mobile PCM storage unit typically accommodates several megawatt-hours (MWh) of storage volume.
Areas of Application:
Perfect for industrial supply of heat networks to hospitals, schools, or swimming pools, or residential complexes. The container can be fully charged with surplus heat at, for example, a biogas plant, and then transported to the point of use for unloading. Ideal for operators of biogas plants or wood gas CHP plants, as well as industrial sites where waste process heat is available free of charge.
