The LT40 is a fantastic and practical machine. It works reliably regardless of the weather conditions and excels at handling demanding jobs out in the field. Its operation is straightforward and intuitive. By hitching it to my car like a trailer, I can bring it directly to the log sawing site. I no longer need to transport large and heavy logs to a stationary sawmill. All this makes working with it a genuine pleasure – this is how David Jones from Scotland, a user of the iconic Wood-Mizer LT40 sawmill and one of thousands worldwide, describes the machine.

In the past, the LT40 sawmill permanently changed the way ordinary people sourced timber for construction. Before the era of mobile Wood-Mizer sawmills, customers had to deliver logs to the sawmill, where a stationary, power-hungry, and inefficient machine was operated. Once set, the cutting parameters could not be adjusted during milling, and the entire log had to pass through the machine at once. The blades used in frame sawmills left a thick kerf, generating a large amount of waste, and the quality of the sawn timber often left much to be desired.

A revolution occurred with the introduction of the lightweight, portable Wood-Mizer sawmill in 1982 in the USA, developed by the talented engineering duo Don Laskowski and Dan Tekulve. The debut of the LT40 in European markets in the early 1990s opened a new chapter in the sawmill industry, allowing existing sawmills to modernize and giving regular people the freedom to process their own timber and fulfill dreams of owning a business. The new sawmilling technology was a revelation for people in the late 80s and early 90s, who had never before encountered a compact machine that could be transported anywhere, loaded with a massive log, and, with the help of a small engine and a thin blade, produce a whole stack of boards.
