SETRA SG 221HDS/Einzelstück/Messebus/Infobus/n. fahrb.

This SG 221 HDS was originally intended for shuttle service to Southern Europe, but remained a one-off and effectively formed the basis for two further high-deckers of a special kind: The S 215 HDS and the S 216 HDS would soon bring Kässbohrer many new customers. In addition, this coach introduced the 'S' designation: standing for 'Super,' as these new high-deckers truly lived up to their name. With a height of 3.63 meters, the elevated passenger compartment provided even more space, accommodating not only additional luggage (16 cubic meters) but also more service installations. Additional fuel tanks could also be installed without issue. Regardless of which of the two Super-Setras the operator chose, the engineering marvel of both new Ulm models was that, except for the front section, they were built entirely from the modular components of the 200 series and were bolt-compatible with the other Setra touring coaches. The 216 HDS offered space for a maximum of 16 rows of seats. By comparison, the version with the underfloor cockpit offered more room. With the Setra SG 221 HDS, Kässbohrer had a vision, but the prohibition on transit with articulated touring buses through France led the Ulm-based company to refocus on standard coaches. The SG 221 HDS was henceforth used as a demonstration and information vehicle at trade fairs and conventions, becoming a point of contact for representatives and customers thanks to its generously equipped onboard kitchen.
